Say the words “the South” to a group of people and every one of them will have a different reaction. The lower region of the United States tends to trend rather red politically speaking. But there are so many other colors to the South, specifically True South, a group exhibition at PDNB Gallery (154 Glass St., Suite 104) that opens with a reception at 5 p.m. Saturday, February 18, and runs through April 15.

The show features diverse works — landscapes and environmental and classic portraits — on southern subjects from areas ranging from the Mississippi Delta to Texas. Artists include Keith Carter, Earlie Hudnall, Jr., Brandon Thibodeaux, Shelby Lee Adams and more.

The show runs in conjunction with Jeanine Michna-Bales’ exhibition Through Darkness to Light: Seeking Freedom on the Underground Railroad, which covers approximately 1400 miles of paths, crossings and sites used by abolitionists and slaves seeking freedom

Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Visit pdnbgallery.com and search both events on Facebook.

If you feel like escaping Vail Village Club Apartments in Dallas, Texas for the day, this event is a perfect opportunity to do just that!
